About This Site

This site is for anyone who believes that service-oriented, user-focused content is the driving force behind the best websites and technical documentation. The site is also a resource for technical writers and editors.

I am a consultant specializing in content strategy and technical communication. I analyze, organize, and deliver simplified information that people can understand.

My expertise includes

  • Content strategy for websites and knowledge bases
  • Professional writing and editing
  • Training and help content that supports the user experience

My Background

Eddie VanArsdall

I have been writing technical documentation and conducting user training since 1986. The web captivated and adopted me in 1996. Over the years I have held many roles, including technical writer, technical editor, instructional designer, classroom/online instructor, web designer, information architect, and content strategist.

I have a keen interest in social media technologies and how they are changing the the world. I am especially interested in projects where social media technologies are being creatively used by businesses.

My Blog Posts

This is not a personal site per se, though I keep the tone informal. I generally write about subjects that are related to what I do for a living, though I may occasionally go off on a tangent. I like to encourage an information exchange, and I enjoy receiving reader responses. I always learn from you.

My Affiliation with MadCap Software

I have had a professional relationship with MadCap Software since they introduced MadCap Flare™ in 2006. I believe that Flare is the best software product on the market for writing and publishing technical documentation.

I don’t work for MadCap, though I am a certified Flare instructor and consultant, so I sometimes teach the Flare certified training curriculum. I have posted articles about Flare-related topics that I cannot adequately cover in a class, and I like to showcase new Flare releases.

My Professional Affiliations

I am a senior member of the Society for Technical Communication and a past president of the Washington, DC chapter. I also belong to the following organizations:
